Nice wildlife area with plenty of walking trails. In fact, the ranger we met told us to make sure we paid attention to what turns we made, because there are over miles of trails crisscrossing the refuge!

No worries about getting lost as long as you remember where one of the main trails is; they are all well marked. Early May is probably not the best time to come here, but we still saw numerous varieties of ducks, a formation of white pelicans, 1 osprey, several egret, a green heron.

We had hoped for more raptors, but they were elsewhere. Also a couple of jackrabbits. Even without an abundance of critters, the trails along ponds and streams make for a good morning of walking in the outdoors.

For those who can't walk easily, there are also driving trails that provide equally enjoyable views. Really appreciate that leashed, controlled dogs are welcome- so many places don't allow dogs these days.

He certainly enjoyed watching the jackrabbit bound down the road! No, we didn't flush the rabbit with the dog. It jumped onto the trail yards ahead of us and took off about its business. We will definitely come back during migration.Gray Lodge Wildlife Area Wildlife Viewing • Wildlife Museum: This wildlife exhibit room contains many taxidermy species of birds and a few mammals found on the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area.
